More about Maradona

In the fairy-tale life of Sir Diego Armando Maradona Franco, visited India twice. First time was in 2008 When he landed in Kolkata. He inaugurated a private football academy. He was a staunch supporter, admirer of Cuban President Fidel Castro, whom he considered a fatherly figure. Maradona saw Fidel Castro's photograph with Mr Jyoti Basu the chief minister of West Bengal. He eagerly responded to an invitation to a function with the honorable chief minister.

Maradona got a wonderful reception in Kolkata right from the touchdown at the airport. As thousands gathered to greet him with much pomp and glory, he nostalgically remembered Napoli, Italy, where he was received with capacity 75,000 crowd. He played a charitable friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium. He excitedly got into juggling the ball as the crowd reveled and cheered. “This is the second biggest reception of my life after Napoli,” he stated.

The historical goal that Maradona scored against England stays in the heart of every football lover. He again visited India in 2017; December to play in a charity 'Diego was Dada'. He did not play due to a hand injury, nevertheless he visited some school children. In his three day visit in the City of joy, he unveiled a 12-feet statue of himself. Maradona realized his dream of visiting the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata and prayed at Mother Teresa's abode.

Starting from a quite a poor state we observe that Maradona had a heart for the poverty stricken, the downtrodden of the society. This wonderful human being enthralled us for years even after retirement. He was a hearty admirer of Lionell Messi. 

Messi, on the other hand has done exceedingly, excellently, extraordinarily in the Club scenarios. He plays for Barcelona and has won titles, scored goals and created chances for others. He has won the golden boot in his outstanding career. People state that he has never won the World Cup. Because in the clubs, people from all countries play in one team. And the players do have a lot of team affections. The team spirit, the team mate-ism is immense. But once in four years, the world cup comes. Here the players have to change their affinities suddenly. This is not very easy. The club football could be one of the prime reasons for stars like Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo not to outshine in the World Cups.

As the world is changing at an amazing pace, so is football. Club matches are played very frequently and the payments are really huge. So like in every  sport the quality is tilting more towards entertainment. People enjoy seeing more goals scored than banal matches. As such players also respond to the these needs. However, well most memorable also is the goal Lionel Messi scored that repeated the feat of Maradona in 1986. Its almost a replay and that is why Maradona adores him. Messi incidentally has never won any international titles for Argentina. But the skill, the ability, the approach, the magical left foot, the class, the dribbles, the free kicks, the goals behold him as the best the player in the world. He so easily swerves past 3 to 4 players, even the commentator is stunned. He has also received many a adulation from the opposition benches just like Maradona. In the world of football Messi is definitely a maestro. As Maradona promoted football, so we are thankful that we are occasion to the magical gifts of Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Mbappe ... The show goes on. The world lost one of its greatest sports-star of football. We pay our humble tribute, salutations and condolences to the departed. May his soul always rest in peace.

Maradona was always the center of play. He was the one who used to create chances for other players. When nobody else was able to score he delivered. Hope that clears the query.

How many fans are there for Maradona?

Football is played in about 200 countries around the world. And Maradona is compared to Pele who scored a 1000 goals at first class level. So, one can say Maradona has countless, innumerable fans from around the globe. After the goal in 1986 world cup against England he was center-stage. 

Any problems between Messi and Maradona during FIFA?

On an individual level none. But on the professional level could be regarding strategies, tactics and planning. As Argentina were largely dependent on Messi. But football is not a one man game. So Maradona was always addressing that fact. Messi was heavily marked. Anyways, the great Diego Maradona has passed out. All we have are his previous matches. It would be more fruitful for folks to understand, appreciate and advance the game.

 

Has p.vieira and Maradona played for the same team?

Patric Vieira is a french player and coach. He played for Arsenal, Juventus, AC Milan and for France. He is another great player but we find no incidence of him playing with Maradona in the same team.
